Do you remember going outside, looking up at the sky (tiān, ; Chinese for sky) and imagining the clouds are different shapes?
This beanie starts with a double brioche brim and then moves into a basket weave textured body before decreasing with short rows. The basket weave texture is a perfect canvas for embroidering with contrast colors. Keep it plain (like a cloudless blue sky day), add a little bit of embroidery (a partly cloudy day), or go crazy (cloudy day). It is not necessary to block, but if blocking is preferred, block gently and do not stretch the piece.
In the samples, the embroidery design on the beanie were heavily inspired by sashiko design. The strands of contrast color yarn were created by opening a hank of yarn and cutting through one end.
