The Jiao-qing Shawl uses two different colors of yarn. Tiffany chose Bonfire and Pip, which are in the same color family, but have a high contrast. After knitting the shawl, the contrasting color is woven into the fabric to create a beautiful herringbone stitch pattern, then the ends are finished with tassels using a friendship bracelet knotting technique.
Tiffany says: Being outside in the spring and summer months reminds me of having picnics and making friendship bracelets with friends. I imagine sitting on top of this shawl at dinner picnics while sharing a meal with friends and catching the sunset; once the sun sets, the shawl can be worn wrapped around yourself to keep your shoulders warm. Jiao-qing () is the Chinese word for friendship.
