Announcing a new shawl hand-knitting pattern by Wool & PIne: Soft Current
Inspired by the winding creeks that cut through Pacific Northwest forests, Soft Current flows with a steady rhythm of easy lace and simple cables. It's light, meditative, and designed to sit effortlessly around your shoulders, no fiddling required.
Two fingering-weight skeins are all it takes to create this romantic loop - knit flat with a tiny seam at one corner for a shape that drapes beautifully every time. The motifs are intuitive, the instructions are both charted and written, and we've included a short video to walk you through the stitch pattern and show you how to wear it.
Soft Current was created for adventurous beginners ready to move beyond stockinette, and for anyone who loves a relaxing knit with a little structure and movement. Once it's on your needles, you'll know exactly what we mean.

Floating
Soft Current was designed with this exquisite yarn in mind - a fingering-weight blend of 70% superfine alpaca, 20% silk, and 10% cashmere. It's weightless and unbelievably soft against the skin, with a drape that brings the lace and cables to life.
The color shown here is Kombu, a tonal green that shifts like sunlight through water. Created through a slow process of plant-based dyeing - including a final bath in indigo - Kombu carries depth, dimension, and movement. It's a color that feels alive, and one of Verb's most beloved.
Floating is a joy to knit and a dream to wear.

We are so excited to partner with Wool & Pine on this stunning design. Soft Current's stitch pattern is easy to memorize and the combination of lace and cables makes it a fun and engaging knit!
We were so excited to meet this design in person we dove in and made a sample of our own! We chose Autumn Light, a subtle, soft, light and airy pink, evocative of early Spring's plum and cherry blossoms, and made using the roots of the madder plant. And a wonderful complement to Wool & Pine's gorgeous version.
Wool & Pine's sample is knit out of Kombu. To create this moody green, we take Floating made with natural silver alpaca, mordant it, and then dye it with weld, logwood, and a pinch of iron. Once dyed, the yarn rests overnight, is rinsed then it heads to the indigo vat where it is dipped into the vat 4-5 times, each time, sitting under the surface of the dyebath for 5 minutes, and then removed, resting for 10 minutes before being dipped again. It is then rinsed, rests overnight, and then washed, hung to dry and skeined.
Because this yarn has been dyed with indigo, please know blue may rub onto your hands and needles as you work. This is called crocking. Although the goods have been washed, it takes pressured contact to release the extra dye. Your handwork is part of the dyeing process. The dye can be removed with hot water and soap. From working closely with the dyed materials through the making process, typically, the excess dye has been removed, and the crocking will cease. Thank you so much for your interest and support of naturally-dyed yarns!
